When actress Anne Hathaway left her con man boyfriend Raffey Follieri, she left another something behind: the couple’s two-year-old chocolate Labrador retriever, Esmerelda.

Anne and Raffey bought the dog together two years ago, but when Anne cleared out of the couple’s pad a few weeks ago she left the pooch behind. Now that Raffey’s in the pokey for impersonating God’s CPA, his cancer-ridden mom is taking care of Esmerelda.

One of Raffey’s friends said to Page Six, “Could Anne Hathaway please come get her dog? He can’t afford a dog walker, and his mom has cancer. I feel bad for the dog. She’s a beautiful, sweet dog who probably greeted the FBI agents with her tail wagging.”

Actress Anne Hathaway dumped her beard Raffaello Follieri last week, and not a moment too soon. He’s just been arrested for wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.

The charges stem from Follieri telling an investor he was CFO of the Vatican. Does that really work? God doesn’t smite you for telling lies about the Vatican? This opens up a whole world of possibilities… Anyway, that lie allowed Follieri to buy properties at a discount compared to fair market value. In addition, he’s charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars of investor money to pay for a $37,000-a-month New York apartment; private-jet travel; restaurants and clothes; medical costs, and a dog-walking service for his pooch.

Looks like Anne escaped not a moment too soon.
