Here’s a live performance of Sting singing Fragile. In the Fall of 2001, Sting dedicated this song to those who suffered from the September 11 World Trade Center attacks.

I think Castro did the song the way it was intended to be performed. Soft, light, sensitively. Perhaps the Idol audience is simply wanting to be entertained more than actually listen to the way the music is suppose to be.
Having him compared to the Sting version even confirms that more to me.
